During surgical procedures such as heart- lung bypass, patient is given high- dose heparin to prevent clotting by anesthesiologists. Heparin has different effects for every patient. For the determination of this difference, Activated Clotting Time (ACT) tubes and device are used. The glass tube located in a magnet and an activator is used with compatible device (ACT).

High doses of heparin are given before open- heart surgeries, (during and after a short time.) Monitoring is a vital component of anticoagulation therapy because a certain amount of heparin will affect each person differently.

Device ACT is used in making heparin test. The device is used for the determination of heparin or baseline clotting. According to the result of this function, the amount of heparin which will be given is set by anesthesiologists or doctors.
